Obituary for Gary L. Johnson Gary L. Johnson, 78, Kearney, died March 26, 2018 at C.H.I. Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., March 30, 2018 at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services with Thayne Moore officiating. Burial will be at Kearney Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, March 29, 2018 at Horner Lieske McBride & Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services. Memorials are suggested to the Autism Society of Nebraska. Gary was born January 7, 1940 in Kearney to Harry “Bus” Marian (Grimes) Johnson. He grew up in Kearney and graduated from Kearney High School in 1958. Gary married Glad Hummer in Kearney in 1961 and they later divorced. He then married Gayle Skiles in 1969 in Kearney. Although Gary and Gayle divorced in 1995 they remained very close. He worked for G.T.E. Telephone in Kearney for 20 yrs. He then owned and operated Kearney Telephone Services until retiring in 1986. Gary enjoyed spending time with family and friends, watching Husker Football, and collecting knowledge and trivia. He also kept up with current events going on in Kearney. Gary is survived by his daughters, Jacki Johnson and her significant other Trent Osborn of Kearney, Debbie Johnson and Shawn Neff and her husband Casey of Omaha; grandsons, Adam Quintana and his wife Jordan, Alex Quintana and his wife Elizabeth, J.P. Neff, and Trey Neff; brother, Dick Johnson and his wife Shirley of Kearney, Jack Johnson and his wife Sharon of South Carolina; sister, Marilyn Helgeson of Kearney. Gary was preceded in death by two brothers, Ron and Doug Johnson, and ex-wife Gayle Johnson.
