KEARNEY - Franklin James Sheldon, 71, of Kearney died Friday, Sept. 2, 2011, at Good Samaritan Hospital of cancer.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church. Burial will be later.


There will be no visitation. O'Brien-Straatmann-Redinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He was born March 2, 1940, in Kearney to Everett and Alberta (Russell) Sheldon.

On Aug. 12, 1966, he married Judith Huffman in Minden.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Curtis Sheldon and his wife, Tammy, of Lincoln and Brian Sheldon and Michael Helle of Beaver Dam, Wis.; daughters, Kimi Thompson and her husband, Dan, of Manhattan, Kan., and Krista Fritson and her husband, Randy, of Kearney; grandchildren, Natalie and Nathan Shank, Dain Thompson, Jessica and Drew Fritson and Lindsey and Emmy Sheldon; brother, Duane Burton of Clarinda, Iowa; sister, Delores Williams of Kearney; cousin, Jackie Sheldon of Kearney; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Doris and Sam Corder, Marilyn Hansen, Dick and Annie Huffman, Bill and Loy Huffman and Carolyn and Jim Milligan, all of Kearney, and Bob and Audrey Huffman of Thousand Oaks, Calif.

He grew up in Kearney, attended elementary school at Stone School and graduated from Kearney High School in 1958.

He was employed with Fred Ortwig Trucking, Norris Johnson Farming, Kearney Co-op and Brown Transfer and retired from Yellow Freight Co. in 2002.

Franklin was a member of Teamsters 554, American Legion Post 52, Fraternal Order of the Eagles 2722, Buffalo Ridge Golf Course and a former member of the Elks. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping, Storm hockey and Husker football.

Frank will be remembered for always being there for someone in need, for knowing no strangers and the love he had for his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett Sheldon, Alberta Sheldon and Georgia Sheldon; and brother, Darry Burton.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society , University of Nebraska Medical Center Foundation or the American Parkinson's Association.
